Pack Leader Positions & Descriptions
Program Positions
Cubmaster
Plan and deliver monthly Pack Meetings (these are often the special events coordinated by the dens)
Coordinate and assist den leaders’ activities and ensure they are delivering the BSA Program as prescribed in a safe and fun manner
Coordinate coverage of meeting flag ceremonies
Participate in event planning and perform or coordinate any duties not covered by an ASM
Assist den leaders when intervention is needed with a scout
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Cubmaster position specific training and BALOO Training
Assistant Cubmaster(s)
- Community Engagement and Service
Coordinate Pack’s participation in 'Keep Lewisville Beautiful' Adopt-a-Spot program and report volunteer hours to KLB
Track volunteer hours for Journey to Excellence reporting
Coordinate Scouting for Food Opportunities
Coordinate local outings, ex: Police and Fire Department visits
Seek out and lead service opportunities for youth
Help plan Outdoor Movie Night recruitment event
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Cubmaster position specific training
- Outdoor Activities
Coordinate with Outdoor Activities Chair for campout planning and execution
Coordinate Cub-O Participation and pre-event map and compass training. Cub-O is a council level orienteering event, usually held the first Saturday in January, where scouts use a map and compass to find locations on a map.
Lead the Pack’s participation in the 10 Commandment’s Hike if a chaplain is not able to do so
Coordinate Pack’s participation in summer events, including Day Camp
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Cubmaster position specific training and BALOO Training
- Troop Liaison/Den Chief
Interact with local Troops and help build relationships and connections between the
Encourage participation in Orion District Webelo Woods and Troop Invitationals
Help recruit and train Den Chiefs from local Troops to serve as den leader’s assistants
Help plan beginning of the year recruitment event. In the past, this has been a rocket launch which used equipment and scouts provided by Troop 9168, but this can be an alternate event.
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Cubmaster position specific training
Den Leaders
Lion (Kindergarten), Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), Bear (3rd grade), Webelo (4th grade), AOL (5th grade)
Plan weekly program using the program materials provided by the BSA
Communicate meeting plans with den families through emails and other means
Enter requirement completions in Scoutbook and communicate with the Advancement Chair when awards need to be purchased.
Maintain a safe, fun, and age-appropriate experience for scouts, referring to the BSA’s Guide to Safe Scouting and Program Guides
Work with event coordinators and parents from your den to plan the events assigned to your den: Lions - Christmas Party, Tiger - Halloween Party, Wolves - Blue and Gold, Bears – Welcome Carnival, Webelo – Pinewood Derby, Webelo AOL – AOL Bridging Ceremony
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Den Leader position specific training
Event Coordinators
Christmas Party Coordinator – work with parents and scouts of the Lion den (Kinder) to plan the Pack Christmas Party. Held in December, this event usually includes food, games, and a visit from Santa to gift Pinewood Derby cars.
Halloween Party Coordinator – work with parents and scouts of the Tiger den (1st grade) to plan the Pack Halloween Party. Held in October, this event usually includes games, costumes, and candy. The past two years it has been held in a trunk or treat format.
Blue and Gold Coordinator – work with parents and scouts of the Wolf den (2nd grade) to plan the Blue and Gold Banquet. Held in the spring (usually February or March), this event is a celebration of scouting and the scout’s achievements. The past few years have included
Welcome Carnival Coordinator – work with the scouts and parents of the Bear den
Pinewood Derby Coordinator – work with scouts and parents of the Webelo den to plan the Pack’s Pinewood Derby. This event is usually held the last Saturday of January
AOL Bridging Ceremony Coordinator – work with the den leader of the AOL den to plan the ceremony for the AOL bridging. This can be part of the Blue and Gold banquet or separate. Will coordinate participation from receiving Troops and order any materials needed for ceremony or gifts.
Committee Positions
Committee Chair
Leads the monthly Parent Meeting (aka Pack Committee Meeting)
Ensure participation in the Investment in Character (a.k.a. Friends of Scouting campaign)
Provide oversight over the finances, including creation, approval, and disbursement of funds in line with the budget.
Recruit leaders to fill Cubmaster and committee roles
Support the Cubmaster in working with individual scouts and problems that may affect the overall program; provide for special needs assistance, as needed
Complete the annual recharter and Journey to Excellence reporting
Support Committee Members and other leaders in carrying out the program
Youth Protection Training and registration is required for this position. Must complete position specific training for this position.
Advancements
Communicate with den leaders for purchase needs.
Complete Advancement Report in scoutbook for award purchase at the Scout Shop.
Work with the AOL Bridging Ceremony Coordinator to plan the AOL bridging ceremony
Work with the Cubmaster and Committee Chair to plan the end of year graduation ceremony, held in late May.
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Pack Committee position specific training
Treasurer
Develop annual budget with feedback provided at the May annual planning meeting
Track funds available in scout accounts
Track Pack purchases and reimbursement requests against budget and provide report at monthly Parent Meeting.
Receive and provide receipts for event registrations
Will be added as a signer on Chase bank account.
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Pack Committee position specific training
Fundraising Chair
Oversee and provide coordination of fundraising mechanisms for individual scout and Pack: Fall Popcorn, Spring Scout Saver, and Dallas Athletes Racing events throughout the year.
Submit fundraising applications for fundraisers that aren’t originated with Longhorn Council.
Ideally, this person is the leader for one of the three existing fundraisers
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Pack Committee position specific training
BSA registration and Youth Protection Training is not required for this position, but encouraged.
- Popcorn Kernel
Attend Longhorn Council Popcorn kickoff meeting (usually late July)
Work with a team to coordinate Popcorn sales
Ensure sales locations are set up for group sales and set up shift signups
Track popcorn that is given to families for door-to-door sales and coordinate with treasurer about desired mechanisms for tracking money that is turned in
Ensure payments are made to Longhorn Council in a timely fashion and prizes ordered
BSA registration is not required, but Youth Protection Training is requested for this position.
- Scout Saver Coordinator
Track scoutsaver cards that are checked out by families, receive sales funds and cards that are returned, and communicate differences between what is expected and what is received
Ensure payments are made to Longhorn Council in a timely fashion and funds distributed to scout accounts
- Dallas Athletes Racing
Communicate with Dallas Athletes Racing Director Dan Jones on volunteer needs, create signups for tracking volunteers, and collect payment
Gives payment to treasurer, along with accounting of who volunteered at the event and how much needs to go into each scout account
2022 events are April 10 (CavemanTri in Flower Mound), September 10 (Honor the Fallen run in Grand Prairie), and November 6 Best of the Best Tri in Denton.
New Member Coordinator
Attend meetings and welcome new families that arrive, collecting contact information and help them learn more about the Pack
Attend Orion District recruitment meetings and coordinate attendance at area schools’ Back to School events
Host a New Family Orientation in September or early October to help educate families about the Pack
Monitor my.scouting.org for new members and help them complete the registration process
Respond to emails sent to welcome@pack729.com or other leads received by the Pack
Youth Protection Training and registration is required for this position. There is also position specific training for this position.
Outdoor Activities Chair
Work with team to plan Fall and Spring Campouts, to include food, registration, and activities
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Pack Committee position specific training. Required to complete BALOO training fall 2022
STEM/NOVA Coordinator
Coordinate opportunities for scouts to participate in the NOVA Awards Program
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training and complete Pack Committee position specific training
Adult Training Coordinator
Ensure volunteers are remaining current with Youth Protection Training
Monitor training announcements from Orion District and Longhorn Council and share opportunities with adult leaders
Encourage participation in adult training, including Woodbadge, BALOO, University of Scouting, and position specific training
Secretary
Take and distribute notes at committee meetings
Register scouts/families for District and Council events
Handle t-shirt ordering process for Pack 1-2 times per year
BSA registration and YPT is not required for this position, but encouraged.
Chaplain
Coordinate Pack’s participation in the Orion District’s 10 Commandments Hike. This is a hike along walking trails in Flower Mound where scouts take turns carrying a replica of the Ark of the Covenant and includes stops where faith leaders discuss 10 topics aligning with each commandment
Assist den leaders with delivering their reverent-related den adventures, if requested
Offer the God and Me religious awards program for interested scouting families.
Required to obtain and maintain Youth Protection Training
Webmaster/Social Media
Update the pictures and information available on www.Pack729.com to keep it current with existing scouts
Serve as an admin on the Protected Facebook Group, update with pictures from recent events, and share information about upcoming events.
Consider creation of a public Facebook page for recruitment purposes
BSA registration and YPT is not required for this position, but encouraged.
